12 Nov 2015 - 12:00

PRIME Nepal in collaboration with the District Public Health Office (DPHO) marked this year's World Mental Health Day on October 10 2015 by organizing a friendly football tournament.

The mental health team (the PRIME team and health workers working in the 12 PRIME implementing health facilities) wore white T-shirts and took on a group of journalists in green jerseys.

More than hundred people including members of the DPHO, district hospital, District Development Committee (DDC), Chief District Office (CDO) and students observed the event. Fun was had by all and the journalists triumphed with a score of 4-0.

Highlighting this year's slogan "dignity in mental health", the emcee elucidated the importance to treat people with mental health problems with dignity before commencing the event.

Furthermore, related slogans were displayed in placards by the audience. The team of journalists won the match and received a trophy while all the players were honored with a medal for their participation.

The event was then concluded with a brief note on mental health by the PRIME district coordinator, and a representative from DPHO, DDC, CDO and the district hospital.

Apart from the entertainment, this event was a good opportunity to imform the journalists and other locals on mental health issues. The event and mental health issues were covered by seven media houses. This helped to spread information about mental health on a larger scale.
