PRIME Trains Health Workers in Maternal Mental Health
The PRIME Nepal team recently undertook training of 40 health workers working as Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) and Staff Nurses at the antenatal and postnatal clinics in 20 health facilities in the country.
Delegates attended 2 days of training on basic psycho-social concepts and an additional 3 days of training on the assessment and treatment of maternal depression based on an adapted version of the Healthy Activity Program (HAP).
The adapted HAP module for maternal depression includes detail assessment, psycho education, problem solving and relapse prevention.
The trained health workers have already started to screen the pregnant and postnatal women, visiting antenatal and postnatal clinics in their respective health facilities. They also provide counseling to the screened positives.
